Jul 17, 2006 · If you are familiar with the gun the safety location will come second nature. I have never got by thumb hung under the shell lifter either. Both Remington and Mossberg are fine pieces. Either one will serve you well. I just prefer the 870 over the 500 series Mossberg, and I like the M37 Ithaca better than the 870.

yes, Mossberg does make the Mavrick 88 in a youth model. the Mavrick 88 youth also has the extension shim and larger recoil pad to bring it to the full size length of pull if you choose to add it. this is the same system used on the Mossberg 500 Bantam youth model also. Honestly an 88 or Mossberg 500 with the field barrel and rifled sight slug barrel will let you hunt almost anything. Some people prefer a shorter barrel with rifle sights for turkey that definitely makes sense, but there's nothing wrong with the 28" field barrel. Either one should be a winner.
