Either one will serve you well. I just prefer the 870 over the 500 series Mossberg, and I like the M37 Ithaca better than the 870.

Honestly an 88 or Mossberg 500 with the field barrel and rifled sight slug barrel will let you hunt almost anything. Some people prefer a shorter barrel with rifle sights for turkey that definitely makes sense, but there's nothing wrong with the 28" field barrel. Either one should be a winner.
