It has an aftermarket exhaust system and i have no idea if it was properly jetted or not to match the exhaust but my father has had this bike for a couple years now and has never had a problem till now. To get fuel into the oil gas has to get past the petcock. The petcock can leak 2 ways: not properly shutting off or having a diaphram issue and leaking fuel into the manifold thru the vacuum hose. Some of us have discovered that the stock air box lets in too much air when the cover is cut all the way around. At high speeds it will cause a lean mixture and begin to surge. To eliminate the surge simply rotate the uncut section of the cover towards the front.Just open the gas cap and pear down in there with a flashlight. This sounds to me like a fuel starvation problem.
