The Marlin 336 used be available from Academy for around $499. Not anymore. Expect to pay at least $1000 for any of the new Marlin rifles. The machining and quality are why the new guns are so expensive. They're better made. If Ruger decides to make a 39A the same as the old ones, they won't be cheap. Don't expect a Marlin 39A to be $450 or less.

You can have extraction problems, with match ammo because of the rim thickness. If you clean the bolt & change ammo and the problem persists, then call Marlin.There is a flat spring placed above the chamber. The screw that holds it can be seen on top of the receiver. That spring serves two purposes. 1) It keeps the firing pin from rising above the rim of the cartridge. 2) It keeps the cartridge aligned with the chamber for smooth chambering. If that spring is missing, you will get some failures to feed.

Use a brass or nylon drift and a small hammer to gently tap the rear sight over in the direction you want to move the group. The sight leaf is designed to move in the dovetail without much force. IMO the hammer's not designed for that solid metal on metal impact which is coushined when the firing pin strikes the brass cartridge rim when live firing. There is a thread on RFC 's Marlin - H&R - NEF forum about someone having a broken 39A firing pin and having to replace it that I think has the information. Edit to Add: Just spoke to my brother on the phone, he has a collection of older Marlin 39-39A and he says on the older guns, the firing pin falls out when you remove the bolt.This looks like a standard bolt that Marlin used at that time. I have a manual from a Model 15YN and a lot of the parts are identical. I am thinking that this firing pin spring is a standard part used in a lot of guns. However the Model 15YN uses the same firing pin, but the spring P/N is 420994. I am guessing that it would work in my Model 2000.

This Model 39 was made in the 1920s or early '30s. It is the early, classic rifle configuration with the S-type pistol grip, slim forend and 24-inch octagonal barrel. The S-grip was phased out by 1935 in favor of straight grips, and when the pistol grip was reintroduced a few years later, it had a "modern" grip cap.
