The conversion kit idea is pretty simple. Insert conversion kit and shoot cheaper .22LR ammo, yet you retain everything of the original weapon. That was my point. New firearms like the Ruger 57, and this CMMG conversion kit, both increase the number of 5.7 firearms available while bringing the cost of ownership down. That means more 5.7 chambered firearms, which means more people to sell 5.7 ammo too, which means prices get driven down.

It took about an hour to do the job. When the New Model Bearcats were introduced, a .22 Long Rifle/.22 Magnum cylinder convertible was an option. Ruger chose to do a recall and dropped the Magnum option. Mine shoots just fine. I took the conversion kit back out and added thin plastic washers to the top of the conversion kit. They each measured 0.56mm (.0225in) thick. I used a pair stacked on the front and a pair stacked on the back of the insert, so a total of 1.12mm (.045in) of spacing was added. Also, the torque specs for the action screws is 60 to 80 inch pounds.
