#1 · Feb 20, 2020. As the title says, is there a way to identify Lugers from just their serial numbers? My local shop has a DWM in .30Luger. It doesn't have date stamped on top of the chamber, but it has a serial number on the front of the frame, 1206k. There is a crown over N proof mark on the left side of the frame, and nothing on the right.Looks like what you said a 1938 S/42 Luger. Finish looks original, these pistols were hot salt blued, no strawed small parts. I would take it apart to check the interior numbers including the grips which weren't always numbered but they do seem to go with the pistol condition wise.
