2012 f150 4x4. Grinding noise front end at low speed. Initially suspected a bad bearing; truck was in for other service at the time, so I asked the.mexhanics to check the front end. They said everything was fine. I then started checking the 4wd system. So far, I replaced the solenoid and check valve, and tested the actuator hubs with a vacuum pump. They engage and disengage as they should.
Loud noise in 2WD not in 4WD. A few months ago I started getting a random gear grinding noise for a few seconds that would be resolved if i switched into 4wd. IWE deletes are very similar to just leaving those old manual hubs locked full time. So I've got a 2013 F150 ecoboost king ranch 4x4. I'm experiencing what I would call a rubbing noise from the front. It's not the grinding noise you might hear from the IWE. It's not related to using the brakes - I hear it whether or not I'm using the brakes and the sound doesn't change when I apply the brakes. To rule out/in IWE you can do 1 of 2 things. 1. If you have 4A, leave it in 4A. 2. If you don't have 4A, pull the electrical plug to the solenoid on the drivers side firewall.
