ArachniGrip Slide Spider looks good. It fits in the slide's groves plus has a patch on top. With arthritis, the problem is often that squeezing the slide firmly enough to get traction hurts. I believe it is the magazine follower that trips the slide lock to hold open on last round. It may be that the grip frame had some malformation that that kept the slide lock from engaging. I had the same issue and additionally my mag release felt "gummed up".

Another thought--I think you can unload the pistol, hold the slide completely to the rear while inserting and withdrawing an empty mag. and tell whether or not the side stop spring is functioning. It should drop the slide stop when the mag. is lowered. Sounds like your grip is pushing up on the slide lock.
