Three days after picking up a brand-new Pacifica Touring L Plus the ESS (Engine Stop/Start) warning light came on, and a message saying something like "Engine Stop/Start Unavailable, needs servicing" popped up when I would start the engine. A week or so later I took the van to the dealership where it was "fixed."

On my follow up visit after #2, the technician said that there was no code showing up that corresponded (if that's the right word) with the limp mode event. This my best guess: After a Pacifica battery is reconnected, the Intelligent Battery Sensor module needs to "relearn" the normal voltage condition. The process involves 5 separate engine starts, with a minimum of 4 engine off hours between each re-start.
