You can set the imprint quality on any tame, hatched or wild-caught. you can set the imprint quality on any age. I'm not actually sure on this. I would assume that if the hatchling were imprinted to a rider, it would get whatever bonus was given. But I'm not sure one way or another if you get that extra bonus without being the one to imprint it.

Two of my dinos had a baby. I imprinted on it and named it. I also imprinted on it 3 hours later (private server, x5 maturation speed).
