the difference between unique and universal isn't the burn rate it is in the percentage of the powder consumed. 12grs of Unique on the 45-70 is only gonna burn about 11.8-.9grs of the total before the bullet exits the muzzle. 12 grs of universal will burn all 12 grs of universal and it will produce a few hundred more PSI in the bargain.
