To hit the armor cap you'll need smithing of 100 and upgrade your heavy armor. I beleive you can get Ebony up to the cap with a potion of smithing along with heavy armor perks. BUT, Llight armor, seems to be the best. ONly because you get armor from the Thiefs guild, and the DB quest lines. I think all of that is light, or maybe my light was higher, so thats what it gives you. I only do heavy armor at the end, when light is at 100.
