Smith and wesson age by serial number.

Greetings all, I have been trying to research the age of a Model 28, and was wondering if anyone could help me out here. This gun seems to have quite a few numbers on it, and frankly it has me a little bit puzzled. The Appendices B, Section 3 shows 39 serial numbers A655001- A745000 were made in 1981.It comes from a lineage back to 1899, they begame the model 10 in 1957 and were made in various forms. The 10 dash 6 is known as the heavy barrel variety. Your gun is not as old as you may think, it left the factory in 1965, so it is getting some age on it though. Hope that helps.
