If it's been done, look for the relay that is externally wired and it should be forward of the box, just aft of the right headlight on the frame. Edit: NVM Im thinking of fuel pump relay, sorry. It will cause erratic heater operation as you have found, but can also lead to engine overheating and expensive damage.
