Feb 8, 2011 · The Marlin is surprisingly light and nimble. It weighs considerably less than my old shotgun or Mosin and only a tenth of a pound more than your typical fully loaded “m4gery.”. It snaps to the shoulder naturally; the 20-inch barrel gives this Marlin rifle near-perfect balance. A proper cheek weld is no sweat.

They are a quality Marlin made under the Glenfield name. They have the hardwood stocks, end cap and one barrel band, dovetailed front sight, and a non-folding rear sight---the rest of the rifle is pretty much the same as the Mod 336.

The Glenfield 30A is/was the cheaper version of the Marlin 336. Then Marlin discontinued the Glenfield line. They still made the guns, but now called the Marlins. So a "Marlin 30A" is just a newer "Glenfield 30A", which is the no-frills version of a Marlin 336. Same guns, same internals, just not as pretty.
I'm looking around for a 336 but have come up with some pictures labeled 30a (glenfield). Comparing pictures I'm trying to figure out the difference between the 2. What can people tell me?

What is the general consensus about the durability of the older Marlin leverguns vs. the current stock? Are the new ones built just as good as the old ones? My Glenfield 30A with the short mag tube and end capped forearm is the most accurate of my four Marlin made 30-30s! I replaced the stamped dear head birch stocks (which I still have) with some new Walnut checkered stocks I got off of ebay! Now it looks like a 336sc (sporting carbine).
