Fit and finish are both excellent, and it is actually tighter in slide fit than the the Kimber. With about 400 rounds through the Operator, I have had 2 FTF issues in the first 100 rounds, none since. The Operator has much better sights, and to me has less felt recoil than the Kimber. I have two kimbers, a full size Custom II and an Ultra Elite. For carry I like the ultra alot more as it is smaller, lighter, and alot quicker for point and shoot type situations.

Also, if you like all black and all steel, the Super Carry Ultra HD is another option. Other than that they are very much similar.

The primary thing I think was they reduced the amount of the carry melt treatment a little. The basic difference between Series II and pre-series II (like yours) is the Series II guns have a Swartz firing pin safety. A series 70 frame will not activate the slide firing pin safety plunger.
