Vans can be great for squatting if you get tinted windows and can find a good place to park overnight. Chuck Taylor style shoes are great cheap lifting shoes. "True to size" doesn't really exist. I wear 10 in Vans old skool, sk8 hi, slip ons, but Vans AVE in 10 crushes my feet. My feet are a bit wide and a bit taller than a lot of other people's. I wear 10.5 in Nike and DC, 9 wide in Clarks, and I have some other shoes that are 9, 9.5, 10, and 10.5
