At least in my opinion, infantry are kinda shit at field battles right now. They get trampled easily by cavalry as soon as the cavalry hit their formation, and pelted easily by archers before they can even get close enough to deal damage. Just have strong infantry and archers. It's not the same as warband really where you can just spam one unit because the scale is much larger now. Personally I'd take a mix of legionaries (any other tier 4 infantry work really) and cheap levies and it's good enough. Basically near equal parts infantry and archers and some cav to use for gadget or emergency purposes. I've experimented with pretty much everything now and this is my preferred way to play the game.

Going 50/50 linebreakers/spearmen is a great Infantry block. And druz champs are great cav that are one of the best seige units when dismounted. I wouldn't normally use sturgian archers but if you're going 100% sturgian units I might try using some archers.
