9.3 Anxiety – Related Disorders. Anxiety disorders are a common mental health problem. Research indicates 19% of adults and 31% of adolescents have an anxiety disorder in the United States. [1] The percentage of adults with an anxiety disorder associated with various levels of anxiety are estimated as mild (43%), moderate (33%), and severe (23%).Bipolar disorders include shifts in mood from abnormal highs (called manic episodes) to abnormal lows (i.e., depressive episodes). A manic episode is a persistently elevated or irritable mood with abnormally increased energy lasting at least one week.
