Do a manual regeneration clean it up. Then it has to pass a DEF fluid quality test. If you can keep driving it, the ECM will run the tests and either clear the message or turn the light back on. On your issue, the first thing I would check is the fuse holder on the batteries. This is the main power for the acm. Check for any defects on the fuse and the wiring. If that is fine check the connection where the level sensor plugs in on the side of the tank. If there are no defects there it is more than likely a bad level sensor.
