The serial number is on the butt, also in the crane area - just the numbers are on the butt, the crane has the model number and serial number - Model 19-3 2K905**.
I would guess by the serial that the gun does not have a trigger guard screw (front of the trigger guard). S&W has made millions of them (still in production) starting in 1899. AFAIK S&W has not made any factory SS revolvers chambered in .38S&W. Second, S&W made 3 different models of .38S&W revolvers with different serial number ranges. We need to determine the model first.
