Having spent ten days based in Newport, we frequently traveled over the Yaquina Bay Bridge, whose completion in 1936 meant the construction of U.S. Highway 101 was over. It spans Yaquina Bay south of Newport. Approximately 220 men were employed to construct the bridge. It’s a combination of steel and concrete arches.
